Tyler Gorman, President, Chief Executive Officer

You have probably heard it said before that it’s nearly impossible to meet someone who hasn’t been affected by drug addiction in some way or another. I am one of those people. My first experience putting a loved one through a treatment program was 12 years ago. The options were plentiful back then as they are today. However, true quality options were not so plentiful. During that period of my life, I came to realize what an epidemic drug and alcohol addiction has become and how it’s affecting all walks of life in many towns across the country.

My interest in researching different types of facilities and programs lead me to where I am today. Through my research, the primary piece of information I found is that the quality of the program has nothing to do with the location or luxurious accommodations that are most often advertised. I discovered that the driving component is the knowledge and experience of the professionals that make up the team. I have had the opportunity to travel the country and tour many successful treatment facilities in search of what makes each one successful. Along the way, I met some amazing and talented people. Each person I met has contributed in some way or another to the makeup of the program at Waters Edge Recovery.

tyler-Addiction Recovery TeamI walked away from a successful career in the financial services industry to pursue my passion of establishing a world-class program that is organized in an intimate, close knit, family style environment. Waters Edge is a place where everyone is on a first-name basis, a place where no one falls through the cracks, a place where all guests will feel welcome as they enter their journey into a healthy, fulfilling life that is drug and alcohol free. I believe the primary ingredient to a successful recovery is the people around you. God has truly blessed me by bringing into my life the people who now comprise the team here at Waters Edge Recovery.

I am on-site every day and am immersed in the day-to-day operations of our facility. I know all guests on a first-name basis as they also will know me by my first name from the moment they arrive. The families have my cell phone number and can reach out to me at any time. I take great pride in our program and facility and truly feel that collectively we have one of the top teams in the industry to help you or your loved one.

I encourage you to reach out to us so that we may help you achieve your goals and begin a new life.

Because we’ve “been there,” our method of recovery takes on a different approach and comes from the heart. It utilizes the brain to inspire our guest to seek a better life. We actually call it the “Common Sense of Recovery.”

With more than 32 years in recovery, my life has been a blessing and a gift. My resolve to assist alcoholics and addicts on their journey into real life remains unwavering. My life experiences and diverse educational background has afforded me the know-how and the privilege to work with individuals as they realize their immense potential, value and worth. Please don’t be discouraged by past failures. Remember that each experience represents a unique opportunity for learning.

I have been on this journey and know and believe that a life filled with the promise of happiness in recovery is possible and that individuals can successfully navigate life’s challenges. Achieving and maintaining long-term recovery requires a new life perspective, one that empowers you to heal with acceptance, enlightenment, and compassion for other human beings. You will walk a path you have never walked before because I believe you can. I know it works, I have been there… it is part of my education as much as was Stony Brook University and Universal Brotherhood Movement.

My philosophy is empowering. My vision for you is breathtaking and my mission is solidly founded on the knowledge that you too can find yourself and a place where you belong with the help of others.

Take a leap of faith and allow my experience to guide you and mentor you through your early drug treatment recovery… you have nothing more to lose and infinite wisdom and knowledge to gain.

Barbara Heggers, Certified Addiction Counselor

Primary Therapist / Reiki Master

Bringing more than 17 years of experience in the field of addiction to Waters Edge Recovery, I am currently a Primary Therapist. In addition to being a Primary Therapist, I am also a Certified Addictions Counselor and am continuing my education at Indian River State College majoring in Addiction.

Along with being a Certified Addictions Counselor, I am also a Reiki Master, offering clients emotional healing while relieving stress and anxiety naturally. I am a dynamic and creative counselor and my strength is helping clients learn to love themselves. I believe the key ingredient to recovery is love. If we choose to love ourselves a little bit more each day, we are less likely to participate in behaviors that will harm us.

I teach my clients the tools they need to build their self-esteem and self-worth so they can handle situations in their lives and not feel the need to run to drugs or alcohol. As a person in recovery, I am able to connect with my clients on a deeper level, knowing the pain that they carry and the hope the future holds. One of my favorite quotes is, “The choices we make determine our destiny.”
